The manual is designed to equip users with information and tools to navigate and negotiate domestic violence matters involving the Criminal Justice System. It contains several sections that deal with specific functions along the Criminal Justice continuum, beginning with first contacts to report incidents; to advising the Parole Board of breaches and requesting conditions; to the Victims' Register and Victims' of Crime Compensation. The resource, with its extended section on Risk and Safety Planning provides opportunities for workers to support victims of domestic violence make informed decisions about their lives, including at which stage and to what extent, they wish to engage the Criminal Justice System in relation to their situation.

Additions and Revisions to the Understandings of the Criminal Justice System and Domestic Violence Manual
After consultations with several groups and workers from non English Speaking Backgrounds, two tools contained within the manual have been translated into a number of community languages.
An amended English version of originals in the manual provides users with changes endorsed by the communities to meet their needs and facilitate understanding by clients.

Domestic Violence Risk Assessment
The Domestic Violence Risk Assessment is based on documentation developed by South Australia Police as part of the Domestic Violence Policing Model initiated in 2008. The tool is used by women’s domestic violence services and primary health care centres to facilitate shared understandings and consistency of approach across sectors.
