Statement of Purpose


Our purpose is to empower women who have experienced domestic violence and indigenous family violence to provide a safe environment for themselves and their children, and to determine and pursue positive life outcomes.
We do this by:

  • Providing a variety of services that recognise the complexity of issues faced and respect each individual's culture, beliefs, needs, values and emotional well-being;
  • Increasing awareness about the impact of domestic violence and indigenous family violence through advocacy, education and the creation of partnerships with other organisations;
  • Working collaboratively to achieve the best possible outcomes for women and children who utilise our service.


Statement of Values


The Central Domestic Violence Service (CDVS) Statement of Values is underpinned by feminist principles that recognise the structural and societal impact of patriarchy in our society. These feminist principles lead us to maintain that violence against women and children is unacceptable and that all people are entitled to relationships based on -

  • Respect
  • Equity


CDVS is committed to the belief that all people are responsible for their conduct towards others and for accepting the consequences of their decisions and actions.

CDVS is committed to assisting our clients to feel safe, supported and to achieve their goals.


We do this by:
  • Using professional and appropriate interventions
  • Facilitating a safe and secure physical environment
  • Continuous evaluation and service development


Our Core Business


CDVS has been providing services for women and children who experience domestic violence and indigenous family violence since 1974. We are the longest standing service of this kind in South Australia.

CDVS is committed to providing a range of integrated and collaborative services that meet the needs of women and children experiencing or escaping domestic violence.

Among our key strengths are our extensive experience, expertise and stability in providing services to women and children experiencing domestic violence at staff and Board level.

Our clients' needs are varied and complex and for this reason, we build strong working relationships with other service providers, policy makers and funders who have specific expertise and influence in these area



Central Domestic Violence Service provides the following services:

  • Safe, supported crisis accommodation
  • Support to women and children in the community
  • Short term telephone counselling for domestic and family violence
  • Assistance for women from Indigenous and Non-English speaking backgrounds
  • Access for women with disabilities
  • Information and links to other services
  • Domestic and family violence support groups for women and children
  • Referral and information about health, drug and alcohol issues
  • Referral and information about legal aid matters
  • Referral and information about accessing income support
  • Referral and information about accessing independent, affordable housing
  • Referral and information about immigration matters
